The History of Woodstock Chimes
The history and origins of Woodstock Percussions windchimes
In 1979 Garry Kvistad created the Chimes of Olympos, tuned to an ancient Greek pentatonic scale. It's pure tone and musical heritage soon stood it apart from other chimes. It was and still is, a magnificent wind powered musical instrument, setting new standards for tonal and build quality.
With his partner Diane, they formed Woodstock Percussion Instruments and when National Public Radio did a feature on them they never looked back. Today many of their chimes are still handcrafted in New York's Hudson Valley, USA.
Today they produce many different chimes, bells and gongs ranging from the cute 6" Piccolo chime to the gigantic 88" Windsinger Chimes of King David. They all still have one thing in common - An often imitated but never matched tonal quality.
Utilising custom computer aided tuning techniques along with the ancient "just intonation" system they take musical scales from a myriad of different cultures and periods in history to create true "Instruments of Nature".
